Arkansas
requires that all Home Inspectors be registered
with the Arkansas Home Inspector Registration
Board.
First, you must have
completed 80 hours of educational training that
has been approved by the board. Correspondence courses are not considered
acceptable for this pre-licensing requirement.
Secondly, you must pass the
NHIE (National Home Inspector Examination)
You must complete 14 hours
of approved CECs (Continuing Education Courses)
each year, of which no more than four (4) hours
can be from a correspondence, home study, or
online course. You can also carry over up to 10 hours of
CECs to the following year.
Finally, you must show
proof of general liability insurance in the
amount of at least $100,000.00.
Under Act 1328, enacted in
2003, all Arkansas Home Inspectors must register
with the Secretary of State, meet the
requirements stated above, and conduct all home
inspections within the parameters of guidelines
set forth in the Standards of Practice and Code
of Ethics of ASHI (American Society of Housing
Inspectors), the AAREI (Arkansas Association of
Real Estate Inspectors) or in compliance with an
equivalent professional home inspection
association. Find online home inspection training from all of our schoole.
Inspectors are also
implicitly prohibited from making repairs on
properties that they have inspected within the
last 12 months.
For further information you
can contact the Arkansas Home Inspector
Registration Board,

.
The phone number is 501-683-3710. You can view
the full statute; find forms and other contact
information on their website.
You may also want to visit
the AAREI website. The field of home inspections
is a fast growing business and can be an amazing
source of income and pride. You may wonder how
that is possible with the slow down in the
housing market; the truth is that housing
inspectors are being used much more frequently
to insure that home buyers are not buying
‘hidden’ or undisclosed problems that have
resulted from the previous owner’s inability to
pay for needed repairs or to properly maintain
the home. Potential buyers are using this
information to either reduce the purchase price,
facilitate repairs prior to purchase, or to walk
away from a deal that would have landed them
much further in debt in order to accomplish the
necessary repairs.
