The state of Illinois requires the following for
candidates for licensing for Home Inspectors:
You must be at least 21 years of age.
You must be able to present proof of a high
school diploma, or its equivalent (GED).
You must take and complete successfully 60 hours
of education provided by an educational resource
that has been approved by the IDFPR (Illinois
Department of Financial and Professional
Regulation). This exam, called the Home
Inspector Examination for Illinois, consists of
the NHIE (National Home Inspection Examination)
and a section specifically regarding Illinois
statutes and regulations. The exam is
administered by the AMP (Applied Measurement
Professionals).
Additionally, to maintain your license, you must
complete the equivalent of six (6) hours per
year or 12 hours per two (2) year renewal period
of CE (Continuing Education).
The law also allows for the exemption of certain
professionals from Home Inspection licensure,
provided they are acting under the scope of one
or more professionally held state licenses.
