Chapter 17-A of Title 37, enacted in 1999
creates the “Louisiana Home Inspectors Licensing

Economic Development.
Home Inspectors in the state of Louisiana must
be licensed and must comply with the following:
You must be at least 18 years of age.
You must have a High School Diploma, or its
equivalent (GED)
You must complete, and be able to show proof,
of at least 120 hours of classroom education, of
which you must have completed at least 30, but
no more than 40 hours, of practical home
inspections overseen by a board-approved
In-Field Training Provider
Once licensed, you must also carry Errors and
Omissions Insurance in an amount specified by
the board. The board is tasked with establishing
a Group Insurance program.
Inspectors are prohibited from soliciting
clients at the time of the inspection, or for a
reasonable time thereafter, to perform repairs
discovered during an inspection.
In order to renew, you must complete at least 20
