Maryland’s Trade Practice Act, established in
1992, requires all Home Inspectors to disclose
their professional qualifications and to include
language describing the scope of the inspection
within the Home Inspection Contract. You are
also required to conduct your Home Inspections
in accordance with the guidelines and standards
set forth by a professionally recognized trade
association, such as The American Society of
Housing Inspectors (ASHI) or the National
Association of Home Inspectors (NAHI).
Furthermore, Chapter 470 of the Maryland
Licensure Law, enacted in 2001, provides that
you must:
Produce a High School Diploma, or the
equivalent (GED).
Pass the NHIE, the National Home Inspection
Examination.
Show proof of liability insurance in an amount
of $50,000.00 or greater.
