Public Law 2005, Chapter 201, passed in 2005,
eliminates the requirement to become an
Associate Home Inspector before becoming a
licensed Home Inspector. In order to become a
licensed Home Inspector:
You must complete and pass an approved course
of study of not less than 180 hours. Such
courses will be approved through the State Board
of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, in
concert with the State Department of Education.
These 180 hours will include not less than 40
hours of unpaid home inspections performed in
the presence of and under the supervision of a
state licensed home inspector.
You must also perform not less than 250
fee-based home inspections while in the presence
of and being directly supervised by a state
licensed home inspector.
You must pass an examination approved by the
Home Inspection Advisory Committee.
Continuing Education (CE) requirements are 40
hours for every two (2) year licensing period.
Correspondence Courses are not accepted to meet
pre-licensing requirements, though 10 of the 40
hours required for CE can be through a
Correspondence Course.
