West Virginia requires certification of its Home
Inspectors in compliance with WV Code, Chapter
29, Article 3, Section 5b(c), Legislative Rule,
Title 87, Series 5, enacted in 2006. The code
establishes the procedures required for
certification in an effort to assure the
consumer that inspectors are competent as
determined by experience, education, and testing
requirements.
In order to apply for and become a Certified
Home Inspector:
You must have a High School diploma or its
equivalent (GED).
You must have passed the NHIE, the National
Home Inspectors Examination.
You must submit proof of successful completion
of at least 80 hours of instruction pertaining
to Home Inspection.
You must also submit proof of and maintain
General Liability Insurance in the amount of at
least $250,000.00.
You must also maintain your certification by
completing 16 hours of Continuing Education (CE)
per year.
