our Business/e-Business Degree.
The Internet is the force
driving the changing world of
business. Today, business
graduates must be as comfortable
with a laptop and a Website as
their fathers were with a
briefcase and a calculator. The
Business/e-Business program
provides for a blend of
traditional business
fundamentals and a command of
the skills necessary to compete
in the emerging worlds of
e-business and e-commerce.
In Mt. Sierra College's

understand the fundamentals of
business in the emerging world
of national and global commerce.

economics; you will master
business accounting; you will
discuss and debate issues of law

much a part of the Mt. Sierra

these different factors
inter-relate with and influence
one another, with a special

The Business/e-Business program
uniquely emphasizes programming
concepts, database management
systems, systems analysis and
design, Internet programming,

e-Business marketing management,
and entrepreneurship.
Computer Information Technology

disciplines of software
engineering, programming
languages, database management,
computer architecture, operating
systems, client-server
applications, computer networks,
Internet/Intranet and Web site
design. While the principles of
the program remain constant, the
specific curriculum continues to
grow and evolve with the
quickly-changing world of
Computer Information Technology,
keeping students up-to-date with
current technology.
The curriculum emphasizes the
use of application development
tools, such as application
programming using current
programming languages and
advanced development tools,
including Windows, Java, Oracle,
UNIX, C++, SQL, and Network
Operating Systems such as
Windows 2000, Novell, and UNIX /
LINUX, Computer Aided Software
Engineering (CASE) concepts
using Uniform Modeling Languages
(UML).
Graphic Design
The Bachelor of Arts Degree in
Graphic Design prepares students
with advanced competencies in
the field of graphic design. The
technical skills, reasoning, and
analytical and problem-solving
abilities of students are
stressed. When it comes to
design education, Mt. Sierra
College's approach is to
transform students to
professionals by mimicking the
workplace. Students become
visual problem solvers. Teachers
become their clients. Students
comp ideas on the computer,
pitch those ideas in front of
the class and learn how to work
as part of a team; classmates
become colleagues as students
finesse good ideas into even
better ones.
Graduates are prepared for
entry-level jobs such as graphic
artist, assistant designer,
assistant art director,
production artist, graphic
designer, digital illustrator
and layout artist. Graduates
might work in an advertising
agency, commercial art and
graphic design studio,
publishing house, television
station, a computer graphics
firm, in-house communications or
marketing department.
Information Security
Information security is of
ever-increasing concern.
Securing the economic and
information highway is of
national and international
importance. Mt. Sierra College
has designed its Information
Security degree program to meet
the standards of the United
States National Security Agency
training standards for
information security programs (INFOSEC)
professionals.

Students graduating with a
specialization in Information
Security will be prepared for
the following professional
leadership opportunities:

Multimedia Arts & Design
Multimedia Arts & Design is an
exciting field of integrated
electronic communications that
is becoming an essential part of
the business, education, and
entertainment industries. The
advent of multimedia has
established a regeneration of
energy in business that has led
to the creation of employment
opportunities that require
individuals who combine sound,
graphic arts, and video/film to
enhance the dissemination of
information.
The Bachelor of Arts in
Multimedia Arts & Design
prepares graduates to work in
entry-level positions in many
diverse areas such as multimedia
producer, multimedia programmer,
multimedia scriptwriter,
computer based training
designer, web designer, project
coordinators, instructional
designers, and web programmer.
The program gives students a
solid foundation in design
skills with an emphasis on
interactive and PC screen
design. Students will also be
prepared to use the tools
necessary to create interactive
content that plays on disk or on
a web browser. Scripting and
programming skills related to
content development will be
utilized.
Telecommunications Technology
Instant availability of current
and pertinent information is the
goal of Telecommunications.
Telecommunications is the
electric transmission of
information in the form of
voice, sound, data, facsimiles,
pictures, or video across a
distance from a sender to
receiver in a usable and
understandable format using
either analog or digital
techniques. Voice communication,
known as telephony, allows
people to communicate with each
other.
The Telecommunications
Technology program includes
management of networking
systems, computer networking,
C++ language, Internet/intranet
design, wireless technologies
and project management. Students
are prepared for careers in
network administration,
telecommunications systems
analysis and management,
information management, and
network and traffic engineering.
Visual Effects & Digital Video
Are you seriously playful? Do
you see things in short,
creative bursts? Professionals
in the visual effects and
digital video field can cut
through the clutter, and deliver
a lot of information in a short
span of time. The result is
innovative TV commercials, movie
trailers, opening film credits,
animated network IDs, short
promo teasers and catchy "Next-on's"
between television shows. Visual
Effects & Digital Video is
design in motion. It's about
creating special effects with
computer-based animation and
graphics. Then, it's up to the
artist to creatively weave video
clips, graphic elements and
sound with live-action footage
for the most impact. It's the
chance to take an audience where
no mere camera can go.
The Bachelor of Art degree
program in Visual Effects &
Digital Video prepares students
with the technological and
design foundations to develop a
digital portfolio worthy of
entry-level positions in fields
such as visual effects,
compositing, motion graphics,
digital display, commercials,
and corporate communications.
These roles support the demands
of television, film, the
Internet, and a myriad of other
media outlets that rely on
animated graphic design and
seamless composited digital
video. The program meets its
mission by providing students
with aesthetic and design
awareness, technical skills and
lifelong learning strategies
that will assist them in
launching their careers.
