The Associate of Art in Health care and Pharmacy Practice degree program’s concentration courses are designed to teach the student the fundamental yet specialized skills they will need to master everything pharmacological. Hey will learn specific skills related to the pharmacy industry including skills in such areas as basic pharmacy operations of community and institutional pharmacies, medical terminology, disease diagnosis and the treatment of them, basic pharmacy process and equipment as well as medical claims processing.
These skills will be acquired in a variety of specialized courses, each geared towards specific skills related to the pharmacological profession. Some of these courses include The Language of Health Care in which the students will learn the vocabulary and terminology of the health care field and the dynamics of language on health care workers. Claims Preparation I and II are two separate courses where the students will learn first the basic billing duties, HIPPA regulations, procedures of the coding and billing systems, Workman’s Compensation, an overview of private insurance companies and billing and collections, among may other needed skills. The Health and Diseases course will help the student learn about the basic principles of illness and diseases and its impact on the delivery of the health care system and the dynamics and language of the health care workers.
Because the students will need to learn and understand how to interpret prescriptions and how to prepare medications, they will need to know how to convert certain standard and metric measurements as pertaining to dosages and route of the medications. For this reason, the last class the student will take as a completion to the concentration courses is the Introduction to Pharmacy Practice course. This course is designed to prepare the students for a first step to taking the exams necessary, although when they finish this Associate degree, they will need further studies still. This course will teach ethics, terminology, related dosages and routes of administering medications, formulations of medications, and many other necessary pharmacy related skills. The Associate of Art in Health Care-Pharmacy Practice was the foundation and first step to a long career in Health Care. When the students finish their education at a pharmacy technician school they will have earned their degree and be well prepared and ready to enter the corresponding Bachelor’s program for continued success.
