What Online Associates Degree to you want?
- AA - Associate of Arts Degree. Probably the most common degree obtained by incoming freshmen that do not know what they want to major in but they do want to attend a 4 year college in the future and obtain a bachelors degree. This is a great degree to have and this degree contains more emphasis on general studies and doesn't get real career specific with it's courses. It is intended as a stepping stone to further your education. The main breakdown in what is needed for a degree in AA is a minimum of 60 semester credits. Each course typically will be from 1 to 3 credits in length. Approx 40 of these credits you will take will come from courses in math, communication, social science, humanities and communications. All of the courses are typically basic entry level courses so that you will get a taste of each area to help you decide on your major. Your remaining 20 hours that you need are designed to concentrate on your major and all of those 20 hours will be geared to help you understand as much as possible about your new area of study.
- AAS - Associate of Applied Science Degree Program. This degree is more specific to a career and one would want to get this degree if they were wanting to get employment or a job directly after their 2 years of study. Perhaps the field they are wanting to get into only requires a AAS degree. Please ask your college to see if they will accept the credits from an ASS as many will not.
- AS - Associate of Science Degree Program. This type of Associates degree is intended to provide a student with the best possible foundation in order to continue with their education after your 2 years. Most college students start with this degree but after a few years continue on with a 4 year college to get their Bachelors degree. It is very common for a student to take the majority of their undergraduate courses at a community or junior college in order to take advantage of the low tuition costs and then transferring those credits to a four year university. When you transfer the credits and if you go on and graduate with a 4 year degree it will be from the degree that your transferred to.

Transferring your Associate Degree Credits
Once completed the second section of your Associates degree is your major course requirements. These courses primarily consist of classes that are tied in with the type of program you are wanting to receive. For example if you are obtaining a business degree then you would take courses such as statistics, business law and ethics as well as economic classes. Most individuals that are going towards their degree have an understanding that you can transfer your credits from a junior college where you might be taking classes to a 4 year college or university. In this situation it is very important for you to make sure all credits can be transferred to the new college prior to taking any course.
