There are Different Types of Distance Education Learning
When taking a course by distance education your either taking a synchronous or asynchronous method. Essentially synchronous instruction requires that both the student and teacher simultaneous participates in the course at the same time. This type of teaching is found by most to be the most comfortable because it simulates more of a live class atmosphere. Also it allows that student to ask questions and get an instant response from the professor and or other students.

The other type of learning is asynchronous teaching which allows each student to learn at their own pace and interact with the professor when they have time. I don't think any one thing allowed distance learning to gown as much as it has over the past 10 years but a few key factors have allowed it to remain strong with no end on how big this will be in the near future. With this the need for night classes and other study options were a must have. The best way to protect yourself is to take a course from an accredited school. These are schools that are recognized by the US Department of Education. You can easily ask the school to show you proof that they are accredited. You can also check the schools records with your local BBB but your best bet is to ask around and make sure the school has normal business hours and a staff that is willing to answer your questions. If you feel the school isn't going to satisfy your needs then move on to another school.
