Routine maintenance is normal for most motorcycles and small engines. This means a shop needs to have individuals trained at engines and your training begins with finding the correct school. Types of Positions in Mechanics

  • Motorcycle mechanics repair and overhaul motorcycles, bikes, all terrain vehicles. Besides just the standard repairing you may do work on brakes, transmissions, ignition systems and even do some body repair if your experienced. Typically you will do work on motorcycles that the dealer carries as you will specialize on repairing those bikes.

  • Motorboat repair mechanics technicians will be responsible for maintaining boats and doing repairs. These include electrical malfunctions, overhauls of engines.

Most work on motorcycles are done in the summer months when owners do most of their riding. In the winter most bikes are stored due to the weather except if you live on the west coast. Your typical work week is 40 hours a week but if deadlines occur overtime may be necessary.

With the proper training one can get employed repairing engines for motorcycles. With some of the larger cycle shops getting their own TV shows and choppers are getting more mainstream it is a career that needs trained technicians.

If you’re into racing many repair technicians work for racing pit crews modifying motorcycles before and after races.
