No, any veteran’s benefits paid under the law administered by the Department of Veteran Affairs should not be reported as income to the IRS. When doing your taxes make sure that your accountant or the individual doing your takes is aware of this.
What happens if I get deployed in the middle of a semester of school?
This can happen and with uncertainties of not knowing were or when you might get deployed there are things you can do. The first step is you need to contact our Veteran’s Office and the school that you are attending. Ask the Veteran’s Office to notify VA of your changed enrollment and follow up with them to make sure that this happens. Also visit your education officer and make them aware of your possible situation and they will inform you of the necessary steps to take.
What if I am on active duty and must stop school due to a new duty assignment or my work load has increased?
You are entitled to receive MGIB-Active Duty benefits through the date you dropped out of school.
