Pet Grooming Classes and On Line Pet Grooming Schools

Dogs and cats are so much a part of our society that they have their own movie stars, and have had for a long time. Do you remember FievelMousekewitz or Rin Tin Tin? Pet care services are big business in the US and as with any other career; you start at the bottom. One thing many want to know however is where is the top and how long will it take for you to get there? The PSCA defines the path you will take to the top. There are two "tops" in fact, one is the National Certified Master Groomer and the other is the Certified Kennel Operator. The PSCA defines 3 primary levels of certification:

LEVEL I Certified Technician (CPCT)
This is a self-paced, home-study course designed to teach the basic principles of pet care and facilities management. The only requirements of this course are the simple passing of the required test after preparing with the study course materials. If the test is passed, at any time, you will then be ready for this level of the career.

LEVEL II: Certified Advanced Technician (CAPCT)
This is the intermediate continuation of Level I and provides in-depth, self-paced study of animal care, customer service, management, staff supervision. The only requirements include successfully completing the Level I Certified Technician course. It also requires at least one-year of professional training and experience in pet care.

LEVEL III: Certified Kennel Operator (CKO)
This course is for pet service facility operators, managers and supervisors. It’s primary focus is on the management and professional skills necessary for managing an animal business as well as the experience needed to care for the pets within the facility. The prerequisites are the successful completion of the Level II: Certified Advanced Technician course plus a minimum of three years experience of working in a pet care service facility. The last requirement is the candidate must currently be working as a pet care service facility operator/manager, either as an apprentice or as a paid employee.

As you can see this is the final product of the process. After three years, you will be qualified to manage a kennel or the boarding operation for a veterinary service. Earnings are not very well documented but the average salary for animal care workers is $18,000 to $24,000. While it might seem almost like charity work for some, the rewards are far greater than anyone would initially realize. The love and respect you receive from the surrounding community almost drowns out the meager pay you might receive. Accounting for the years of experience and the management level position $35,000 and above is realistic. If you are looking for an exciting career then pet grooming classes might just be a good fit for you.
