Your New Real Estate Career
Receiving your real estate license is an exciting time and one that signifies the start of your new career. The career your about to start is one that is challenging and gives you the ability to reap in the rewards on the real estate industry. Some of the wealthiest individuals are, or have at one point been involved in real estate. The great thing about this career is that you’re in complete control of your destiny and the possibilities for wealth are endless as long as you work hard and stay focused.

Everyone that receives their real estate license has entered into this field with dreams of buying and selling homes for profit. Once you get your first sale your addicted. I feel that one of the best things about this industry is the low cost of entry. Courses in real estate are extremely low and when choosing a school look for a school that has plenty of things to offer and is approved by your state board. Besides a car to drive around your buyers the industry has turned digital over the last 10 years and almost all homes can be found on the internet. The buyers can make up their mind almost entirely online. If you are a people person then this is the perfect career choice. People want to buy homes from people they can trust and talk to. Everyone hates those pushy car salesmen, so keep that in mind when starting your real estate career.

What Types of Careers are in Real Estate
Most people when starting real estate want to buy and sell homes but the industry has much more to offer. Perhaps you would like to just work in the office. This type of position doesn’t require you to have a real estate license. Perhaps you like to take pictures. With technology so advanced these days most homes not only get pictures taken, but also video and 360 views that they can show online. The hardest thing about real estate is to get started. People in general, are always hesitant in starting a new career because they don’t want to don something outside the “norm”. Well I’m here to tell you that for little to even no money you can start your own career. Did you know that many brokers will actually pay for your education?

Salesperson Assistant
This person isn’t required to have a license and acts as an assistant to the salesperson. They might set up appointments, file paperwork or help shuttle clients to and from the main offices. This is a great way to really learn the industry and find out if this is a good career move for you. Most of these jobs are salaried or hourly paying jobs with no commission involved.

Salesperson
Now your getting to the good stuff. If you want to become a salesperson you will need to be licensed in the state you wish to practice. Once licensed, you will work under the close eye of a broker for an established period of time set by the state. You will basically be learning from your broker and selling homes. You will more than likely earn just commission in this role as you can make 2-3% of the total value of each sale. In places like California where the average single family home is over $600,000 that is $12,000 -$15,000 for each sale you make. This number varies depending on they type of arrangement you have with your broker. Most people only need to sell 3-4 homes per year to make what they did all year at their 9-5 job.

Broker
If you really want to make money and that is your goal then you need to become a broker. In order to be a broker you must first get your salesperson license and then complete the state required hours of education and pass a state test. The great thing about being a broker is you hire salespeople to basically sell homes for you. You get paid when they make a sale. Many brokers have many salespeople under them and some have 100’s if not 1000’s. It is a pure numbers game at this level and the more salespeople you have that are selling homes the more changes you have in getting a listing and selling more homes.
